Solution : Let the speed of Shyam be $x$ metre/minute and the speed of Ram be 3$x$ metre/minute. Relative speed = 3$x$ – $x$ = 2$x$ metre/minute Distance = Relative speed × Time ⇒ 1440 = 2$x$ × 8 ⇒ $x$ = 90 metre/minute Time taken by Shyam to complete the race = $\frac{1440}{90}$ = 16 minutes Hence, the correct answer is 16 minutes.
