Hi Pallavi,

To pursue M.A.in economics from JNU you have to appear for JNUEE. The syllabus and books to refer for the same are :

  • Macroeconomics: (Dornbusch and Fisher, Macroeconomics,6e and Mankiw, macroeconomics)
    • National Income Theory of Income Determination
    • Monetary Policy
    • Trade and Balance of Payments
  • Descriptive Statistics : (Nagar and Das, Basic Statistics,RGD Allen, Mathematical Analysis for Economics, AC Chiang, Fundamental Methods of Mathematical Economics,Sydsaeter and Hammond, Mathematics for Economic analysis)
    • Mean, Median and Mode, Standard Deviation, Correlation Coefficient
    • Elementary Probability Theory
    • Mathematics for Economists (Elementary Algebra, Coordinate Geometry and Elementary Calculus)
  • Problems of Economic History, Underdevelopment and Growth:
    • India's Economic Development prior to Independence: India's Planning and Development experience since Independence; Basic indicators of Development.
  • Microeconomics : (Hal Varian, Intermediate Microeconomics, 7e, Rubinfield and Pindyk , Microeconomics)This will contain following subtopics
    • Demand Curves
    • Price and Income Elasticity of Demand
    • Cost Curves
    • Equilibrium of Firm under Perfect Competition and Monopoly

The entrance exam comprises of the two parts: Part A (MCQs) and Part B (short/long question type). The part B will be evaluated if you get shortlisted on the basis of your part A. Then aggregate of both the parts will be considered for final selection. It is better if you refer previous year paper as well. After completing each topic try to solve the questions for that topic from PYQ papers. This will help in revising the topic. Once you complete whole syllabus start attempting the question papers within the duration of JNUEE. This will help you in time management skills.
