Question : Refer to the following data table and answer the question.
Year | Ratio: Import/Export |
2011 | 1 |
2012 | 1.1 |
2013 | 1.5 |
2014 | 0.9 |
2015 | 1.1 |
If the imports in 2012 were Rs.1000 crore and the total exports in the years 2012 and 2013 together were Rs. 4800 crore, then the imports in 2013 were (in Rs. crore)?
Option 1: 3891
Option 2: 5836
Option 3: 909
Option 4: 2594
Correct Answer: 5836
Solution :
Imports in 2012 = Rs. 1000 crore
Let the export in 2012 = Rs. $y$ crore
The ratio of imports and exports in 2012 = 1.1
⇒ $\frac{1000}{y} = 1.1$
⇒ $y=\frac{1000}{1.1} = 909.09$
Since, total exports In the years 2012 and 2013 together = Rs. 4800 crore
So, exports in 2013 = Rs. (4800 – 909.09) crores = Rs. 3890.91 crore
Let imports in 2013 = Rs. $x$ crore
The ratio of imports and exports in 2013 = 1.5
⇒ $\frac{x}{3890.91} = 1.5$
⇒ $x$ = 5836.36 Approx
Hence, the correct answer is 5836.
