Hello Pragya,

DI-LR is area where Practice make you winner else you're sure to loose it.

DI-LR Section every year its quite tough and getting difficult every year, I would suggest practice as many as questions because every set of questions are differeent and thereby are tricky.

Practise from Nishant Sinha book, TIME Book, CL Book buy them and practice di-lr sets.

Try purchasing mock test of TIME/CL it will cost you around 4-5k. But it will be really helpful as just going through qstn aint gonna help you. Practice it and analyse it which concepts are applied and how is decison making process.

Hope your doubts are cleared.

Feel free to ask more queries .

Best wishes for your future endeavours.

Hi Pragya,

I think you are going on the right track. For further steps you should try practicing mocks from Hitbullseye.com, Fundaclear, TestFunda, Career Launcher, TIME etc. The more you do mocks with a time based mode, the more you will be able to understand which sets to choose and which one's to leave.

Ideally, solving 5 out of 8 sets should get you to a 95%ile + in this section as per previous trends.

Good luck.!

Hey Pragya!

As you have already completed the Quant section by Arun Sharma. According to me, it is more than enough to clear the basic theoretical concepts. So, your present target is to practice as many questions as possible within a certain time limit. And, the best way to do it is by taking mocks, analyze your mistakes and then, rectify those mistakes. You can also consider TIME’s test series enrollment; it won't cost you more than 4k. Prepare well and ace it. Best wishes!

Hi Pargya,

I would suggest you to tak a test series (TIME, MBA guru or any other) and then compared that whatever you have prepared till now, does   it cover all type of questions being asked i the test series.

Since from past few years , DI was considered to be toughest. If you have solved the book without any time consraintes on question then you will just get idea about the questions but you have to make sure that you can complete questions in a stipulated time. So , try to solve the questions as fast as poosible and for that you need to enahnce your reading and analytical skills.

Test series will give you a strategy of selecting question as all questions in exam are not meant to be solved. You should know which qustions to be selecte and most importantly which one to reject. Selecting a right question would save a lot of your time.

You can search some online wbsites that provides tests for specific duration to increase your speed.

All the best

The hottest and the most debatable question among the cat aspirants of the this decade is How do I Get through that DI-Lr part!!??

Since Quant has been normalized to promote non engineers by IIMs LRDI is the nightmare now.

But Well the solution is both simple and complex.

Cat-2017 was a LR disaster for students. 10-12 right questions was like 99 percentile.

A lot of students didn't clear the IIM criterias because of A poor sectional cutoff in LR-Di. The biggest difficulty was question comprehension. The passages were longer than RC passages and students who overcame that VA part trying to take some breath, after clicking on the next section button, almost got a heart attack by seeing the length of the passages.

So coming back to what you need to do...

You've done Arun Sharma. Increase your reading speed you still have time. Go for past 25 years papers its available on Amazon by Career launcher, Take sectional and overall tests and analyse your results well. TIME is always ahead in the terms of difficulty of LR mocks. So try them out.

One of the most important points in Cat is understanding what can be done and what can't be.

So targetting the right questions is the way forward.

Xat and Cat LR-Di are the same, they both give you enough time but you don't know where to use It.

So overcome this with thorough practice, you should know just by looking at the questions which ones you can attempt and which you can't!!

Once you get there you will succeed, patience and perseverance is the key and the way forward.

All the best.

Hello Pragya,

Arun Sharma is a good start for DI-LR, and it is great that you have covered all topics in there. However, the kind of questions that may come up for DI-LR section is always a surprise. CAT 2017 presented a very tough DI-LR section as compared to the previous years and most students faced difficulty in here. In order to encourage non-engineering students to pursue MBA, there are chances that the DI-LR section may become more and more difficult in the coming years, with the Quant section becoming relatively easy.

I would suggest that you solve the previous year CAT papers and gauge an understanding on the difficulty level of questions and how it has been changing over the years. If you find questions with difficult patterns, practice more of those type from online sources and master them.

The key to cracking DI-LR section is knowing to choose the right set and to solve the questions within the stipulated time. Both time management and set selection can be bettered with practice, so it is important to take sectional tests and full length tests.

Practice different patterns of DI-LR and understand which pattern is your strength. This will help you in choosing the right set when you face the actual CAT exam. Good luck for the exams!

Best wishes,

Anjali Sam

Hello Pragya, Glad the reply was of use to you. You can try out the tests by Hitbullseye if you cannot afford other paid material. However, the difficulty level would not be as good as compared to TIME or IMS mock tests. You would not get the correct picture until and unless you practice questions of the same level as CAT and that too, with competent students as well. The mock tests by coaching institutes give you an idea of where you stand compared to your competition. Try connecting with coaching institutes and see the packages they offer just for mock tests alone. If you still think you cannot afford it, try to take atleast one mock test from any of your friends who may have enrolled in coaching institutes.I am not aware about GK mojo's course for GA. CAT exam does not have a General Awareness section, but you would need to build it for few other tests which are listed below (if you are planning to write them).IIFTXATSNAPCMATThe link below by careers360 will give you an idea on the GA section for these tests.https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/general-awareness-for-mba-preparation-tips-and-exam-specific-analysis I mostly prepared from previous year question papers and mock tests for GA since time was less. Hence I would not be the right person to guide you. If you would like guidance on the same, I would suggest you post it as a separate question on Careers360.Good luck! Best wishes,Anjali SamPGP Batch 55 (2018-20)IIM Calcutta

Hello Pragya

For DI/LR preparation you must apply for online test series like cracku.co.in and Time test series too. You must focus more on DI because last year DI section was tough if you conquer this means you conquered CAT paper.

Now you should focus only on going through test series. It will help you a lot. If you are making mistakes then learn from the solution and jot it down. And test series solutions contains short cuts in problem solving which you should also apply while solving only if you get the trick of solving. If not ask your mentor and our team also here to help you out.

Good luck for for your career ahead.

Thanks

Hi,
See there is not dearth of questions when it comes to DI/LR. So finishing onee book won't serve the purpose of completing the preparations.
Some of the other books you may refer to are:
Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency: Ananta Ashisha
Analytical & Logical Reasoning For CAT & Other Management Entrance Tests: Peeyush Bhardwaj
Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation for the CAT: Nishit K. Sinha
Other than these it is also important that you manage your time well because DI/LR can become one of the most time consuming section in CAT but it is also one of the best sscoring section as well.
So it is important to give sectional and full tests from time to time so that you get to know your weaknesses and work on them effectively.

You shpuld go for solvibg mock exams if you are completed with syllabus. Mbahitbullseye is one such affordable test series. You can also attempt previous year questions papers as shared below.

https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/cat-question-papers

Analysis of all mistakes is critical and focus on such questions more so you can score better and better.
