Hello,

Biotechnology is more research oriented with medical, microbial, diagnosis, tissue culture techniques , whereas  food tech is more of business work oriented. Because of less of biotech companies, students taking biotechnology invest much into research programs and better studies. On the opposite hand food tech is gaining more popularity due to rise in number within the food & beverage products based companies. If you wish to decide on a decent job soon it's better to require Food technology because it offers lot of potential within the Food processing and packaging industry , it's an evergreen industry and is growing. On the opposite note if you wish to go for a  long route and pursue research in biotech you'll take biotechnology. It's better to pursue Food tech as biotech is struggling in India as of now.

Also your bachelor degree should also be taken in to picture.

Dear Aspirant

I hope you are doing well

The minimum eligibility criteria for admission in M.Sc Biotechnology is as follows: The candidate must hold a B.Sc degree in Biotechnology / Biology / food science/ Microbiology/Nursing or B. Pharma/ BPT/BMIT. Minimum percentage in qualifying examination should be 55%.

And

For msc food technology

candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Technology or other related stream like Agriculture, Food Technology , Diary Technology , etc from a recognised board or university. The candidates must obtain minimum 50% marks in graduation to be eligible for this course

Both stream are different and good also

Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary stream that has subsets within, one of them being Food Technology apart from Industrial Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Agricultural/Plant Biotechnology, Animal/Mammalian Biotechnology. While Biotechnology has both an industrial and academic research element to it, Food Technology mainly revolves around Industrial research and finds scope in its Food Industries.

Biotechnology opens many doors, offering you opportunities in different sectors of the Applied Biosciences. If you are undecided and are looking to find a place in a sector, Biotechnology would be a better option over Food technology.

Food Technology, on the other hand, specializes you in the food sciences and development of food technologies. If that interests you, you would be a happy member of the community

I hope it helps you to take decision
