Hello,

First of all the eligibility criteria of IBPS PO is passed graduation in any stream from a recognized university, hence irrespective of your academic background, if you're a graduate you're eligible to appear for IBPS PO. Now, coming to your question, today with technology everything is accessible, there are many candidates who have qualified banking exams with their own efforts without any coaching, so it's more of a personal choice, if you feel you need the guidance and more importantly check the coaching you will be enrolling in, as you will spend considerable amount of time along with the fees, the time has to be valuable in the sense that you're learning something, you can also qualify banking exams through self-efforts, first and foremost you have to be acquaint with paper pattern and syllabus, and then choose the study materials accordingly, banking exam is all about speed and precision, hence practice  is the key here, you will have to gain conceptual understanding first in subjects like quant and reasoning, especially in the recent times the level of questions have gone up and it's similar to management level exams, you can start with NCERTs if your base isn't strong and then move towards standard books, you can use CAT preparation books by Arun Sharma/Sarvesh Verma. some of the other books which you can consider for basic understanding are RK Agarwal's book of Quantitative Aptitude for all Compeitive exams/ M Tyra's Quicker Maths/Arihant Publication's Objective Mathematics. You can use MK Pandey's Analytical Reasoning or RK Agarwal's A modern approach to Verbal and Non-verbal reasoning, for English secction you can use Wren and Martin book for grammar if your foundation isn''t strong, other than this Objective General English by SP Bakshi is a good book, read newspaper on a daily basis you can choose The Hindu or The Indian Express. in recent times many of the RCs were taken directly from The Hindu, also you need to read one business newspaper, The Economic Times or The Business Standard are good options regarding this, after going through the syllabus and paper pattern make a schedule and accordingly assign number of hours to each subject, as I mentioned above practice is the key to success in banking exams, the more you practice the better you become, there are many mock papers freely available for all sections which you can get from any competitive exam sites especially for banking, set a timer and practice those papers and analyze how you're faring, prior to exam you to apply test series as this will be further help you knowing your progress, you can also search details regarding any topics or sections through YouTube, if you find any channel good you can also follow it,  if in spite of doing all these you feel somewhere you're lacking or not improving then you may consider joining a coaching, but make sure to find out all the details pertaining to the same, and then proceed ahead.
