Respected sir,
I think you should search more thoroughly , still I'll answer as I have been asked to answer.
Just Like Narayana Rao said, many students at IIT have taken a drop. Its nothing uncommon, and is very normal.
I, myself, have taken a drop of one year to prepare for JEE and I too had faced this same dilemma few years back.
Always remember why you have failed to get in this year. If it is something rectifiable, then don't worry.
Also if you have a good branch (of your interest) at a place where you think you can do well then you don't need to for a drop. Ultimately the IIT experience is great, but I am sure the other colleges also have a rich culture. Colleges like BITS-PILANI, NIT-Trichy,NIT-Warangal etc. also offer very high prospects.
Just remember IIT is not everything in life and be absolutely certain about your decision. You may lose focus if you ever second guess your decision, once decided then hold on to it.
Also be motivated throughout the year and try not to lose focus, the pressure on you to perform is greater when you take a drop, don't succumb to it, rather use it to your advantage.
I would advise you to make your decision free from any bias from people around you, be it your relatives or even parents, if you really have the drive to go for a drop then don't let anyone stop you, meanwhile if you aren't sure of yourself then not taking a drop would be a better idea.
See it's a very big question as it is a question of your career. I think that if your basics are not that clear then only you should take a drop also if you think that you have that potential to buck up and clear the exam after an year drop then go for it else now only try to crack the exam or else try for other private colleges
Hope this helps
Dear Himanshu,
It is not advisable to take a drop after completing your 12th class as you can attempt JEE Advanced maximum two times in consecutive years.
In order to score good marks in JEE Advanced you should make your time table. So, that you can complete your syllabus on time and you get proper time for revision. You can include daily and weekly targets as well.
To score good marks make sure your basics are clear. So, that you can easily solve tricky questions. Make sure you complete your NCERT book first to make to build your fundamentals.
You should focus on the important topics which carries more weight-age in the exam to score good marks but make sure you complete your whole syllabus as you have enough time.
You can refer previous year paper to understand the exam pattern and level of questions.
Practice plays a important role in JEE exam. Solve as many as mock test series to analyze your preparation level at regular period of time. You can solve MCQs and timing test to increase your speed.
Revision plays a good role in scoring good marks. Make sure you revise your whole syllabus before the exam you can take help of notes for revision. Do revise all the formulas.
All the best for your preparation and exam!!

All the best for your future!
