Should I trust the college authorities and the details mentioned on the website while opting for admission in that college?
There are many claims- claims which are true and claims which are false. On every college website, on the home page only they say 100 percent placement, best faculty and all, that is one part which is called advertisement. You need to slightly dig deeper, every college website is supposed to have a declaration called a mandatory disclosure which essentially gives all details of how the college is, what the faculty size is, what is the placement, fee and so on. When you look at any official declaration that is made by the college on its website and there are two three things they have to do. There is something called SSR which is, every college is supposed to be accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). Based on the declaration that college gives, the NAAC investigative team or the auditing team goes to the college, verifies all the claims that are made by the college and then certifies that. SO, what you must do is, either the mandatory disclosure or the NAAC SSR report on the college website and both these are supposed to be available on the college website.
So, you should not believe on the home page which keeps blaring about 100% placement, best faculty, etc. You must go one step further and check the mandatory disclosure or NAAC SSR of that college. If you check these, the reports that you will get will tell you the truth because they have been submitted to government authorities so the possibility of them lying are lesser than what they would be in an ad format.
So, there is certain information that is hidden inside and for that you must dig deeper and if you are trying to go by what is written on the face of the website that is the home page then I would suggest to be careful because not everyone tells you the truth. Remember, the home page of the website is supposed to be claiming or selling you something. That is just one part of what you must look for, the more detailed, interesting, and more truth will be hidden behind the wall which you must search and slightly dig deeper.

Yes, the rankings, placement data and other information provided on the official website of respective colleges are generally true.
However you can cross check with the Careers360 and for more information on that college such as its affiliation status, facilities provided, courses available, fees etc.
Also talking to the students currently enrolled in that college would definitely give you a realistic review of that college.
You can also visit ranking agencies website such as NIRF for reliable rankings
