Since this year only 8.5 lakh student have appeared for jee mains , so can we expect that cutoff rank for colleges can extend little bit ?

Dear Aspirant,

What do you meant by extension of the cutoff. The number of seats in the NITs/IIITs/GFTIs, are pretty much same as the last year so you might not expect any change at the top of the hierarchy, you might however, see change in the low side.

For example, 80 percentile generally meant a rank beyond 2 lakh, but this year this would meant a rank less than 2 lakh, around 1.7 lac.
