Dear Aspirant ,
Every IIT follows a different procedure for admission through GATE.
Meeting the GATE score cutoff is a primary requirement. Every IIT sets the cut off individually.
Some IITs have direct admission based on GATE scores. (IITB, IITD, IITM, IITKgp for certain courses)
IITK and IISc Bangalore usually conduct a written test followed by an interview.
IIT BHU also takes both written test and an interview in some streams.
Mostly IITs conduct only interviews after shortlisting based on the GATE score. (IITD, IITG, IITB etc.)
IITB and IISc Bangalore release their cutoff before COAPs (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) first round of counseling. You have to make your final offer on COAP.
Some IITs (IITR, IITM, IITKgp) have only one form for all the courses and you will have to mention your preference in the order. Some IITs (IITK, IITD, IIT BHU) will keep separate forms for different departments.
Different specializations in a particular stream have a different cut off for GATE scores.
Some IITs also ask you to upload your CV with the application. I think they might want to know about your projects and interests in the field.
Different IITs also have different deadlines for applying. IISc Bangalore usually opens up the applications in February and keeps the deadline near the date of the GATE result.
IITs generally start the applications after the GATE result. Make sure you maintain a record of the start and end dates of the applications.
Hope this information helps you ,
Thank you .
