Good Evening,
The concept of ranking in JEE Main has been change substantially as it is and will be condcuted by NTA in the near future. The percentile ranking system is vastly different from any other ranking system. It is beneficial for few while it destroys dreams of many. The percentile ranking system can be explained through an example. So consider, there are 100 students in a room including you giving a specific test, and you score 98 perecntile, it simply means that you scored marks more than 98% of the students did. Simply you scored more than 98 students who gave the test.
So compiling it with the real life scenario of JEE Mains ranking, consider that you scored 89.6 percentile marks in JEE Mains, simply it can comply with the base that you scored more than 89.6% students who actually gave JEE Mains. I hope you understood the new ranking system through these examples.
Hi Deepak,
The ranking by NTA is done by your percentile score in JEE Mains.
It depends on how many students appeared all over India.
For example, in January attempt, 8,74,469 students appeared for the exam across four days with two sessions each making it eight sessions in total.
The formula used for calculating JEE rank of January attempt would be,
JEE main rank = (100 - NTA Percentile score)*874469/100
Hope this helps you.
All the best!!!
