I will tell you merits and demerits of both the colleges and then you can decide.

CALCUTTA NATIONAL MEDICAL COLLEGE :

PROS :

very old college, so more the number of alumni.

organizes one of the best fests of the year in kolkata - AGON.

the college campus and the hospital campus are different seperated by the main road.

CONS :

not very clean and tidy.

capacity is 200 students. so distribution of batches consists of more number of student per batch in practical groups, wards, dissection batch. (trust me, less the number of students, better for you )

no metro route closeby. closest is maidan metro which is 2.7km

also, transportation is bit difficult.

now coming to IPGMER and SSKM HOSPITAL,

PROS :

huge campus. both hospital and academic campus are same, therefore everything is close by.

the streets, wards, rooms are very clean and tidy.

has the best infrastructure among all the colleges in kolkata according to surverys.

it is the only government superspeciality hospital in west bengal, therefore a huge patient load, and there are a big variety of cases which will give you a better learning experience.

No student union. politics is minimal. there's an awesome senior-junior relationship.

and believe me, this is only college which has the best location in terms of everything. be it transportation or other.

Victoria memorial is just opposite to the acad buildings. it has pretty much become the college students' hangout zone. also you will get an awesome view from your practical rooms as well as hostel.

nandan, forum mall, maidan, parkstreet, eden gardens, princep ghat, everything is so close by.

there are great food joints available all around this place.

CONS :

there is no union, so the cultural part is a little weak. Fests happen but are not very big.

Academically ,

both the colleges are good.

So its on you now.

Both colleges are equivalent in terms of studies and both are government. You can take admission in any of them:)
