Sir I want to become an IAS officer. What should I have to choose subject in class 11th

Greetings.

All degree holders in any stream of subjects are eligible for writing the IAS exams.You can do graduation in arts , science , engineering , medical, economics , commerce , literature etc or any of the course to apply for the exam. But as per the syllabus, you should have a proper command in these following subjects:

• History.
• Geography.
• Political Science / Civics.
• Economics.
• General Science - Physics, Chemistry & Biology.
• Environmental Science.
• Sociology.
• UPSC conducts a separate exam in 3 stages.Priliminaries, Mains and personality tests. Only if you succeed in all the stages, you can become an IAS officer.

There is no specific subjects to be chosen in 11th standard for IAS.



To be an IAS you should be a graduate at any subject . That includes Engg, medical, science, arts and commerce graduate. There is nothing to be particular about any stream in IAS exam.



The best way to go ahead is to choose subjects in which you see future. What would you like to do in future.



One important thing to always keep in mind is that there are very few vacancies in Indian Administrative Service and lakhs of students who apply for it. You should always have a back up plan in case you fail to make the cut.



Therefore choose the subjects accordingly. What would you like to do after finishing 12th? If the answer is Engineering then you should select Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.



This is how the decision should be taken. Rest be assured that whatever subjects you will choose, that will make no difference. You can still apply for the Civil Services Examination.
