Hello Jamshed,

If you are 12th pass you can apply for NDA and become a lieutenant
If you are a graduate you can apply for CDS to become a lieutenant
For NDA age limit is 16 1/2-19 years
For CDS age limit is 19-24 years
The mode of entry of NDA and IMA (CDS) is through a written test conducted by UPSC followed by SSB (service selection board) interview.
All the tests in SSB are meant to test you under pressure. This is because, in real life situation, an officer has to perform judiciously and efficiently under pressure, so a candidate must give positive response under pressure. The constraint of time is applied in the testing and most of the tests are designed in such a way that they get difficult with time. The level of difficulty is not much. If you look closely you will realize that SSB is more about logic and positive attitude than intelligence. Of course, the basic intelligence needs to be there. The reason why you are told to be honest all the time in SSB is that if you lie and get selected somehow, then you might suffer a lot in training and in-service because your personality is not meant for it.
The National Defense Academy, formally known as NDA is the Joint Service Academy for the Indian Armed Forces. Cadets of three armed services including Army, Navy and Air Force are trained together in the academy, before moving forward with the pre-commissioning training. Admissions in the academy are accepted via written examination conducted by UPSC, followed by an extensive interview conducted by SSB. Finally, a medical test to keep a check on the candidate’s overall health and physical fitness.
