Candidates taking the personality exam must meet certain physical conditions in order to be considered for IPS.

Men must be at least 165 cm tall and women must be at least 150 cm tall. Candidates belonging to ST and races such as Gorkhas, Garhwalias, Assamese, Kumaonis, Nagaland Tribals, and others might have their minimum height relaxed to 160 and 145 cm for men and women, respectively.

The minimal chest girth, completely inflated, for men is 84 cm and for women it is 79 cm. For both men and women, a 5 cm expansion is recommended.

Distance vision of 6/2 or 6/9 for the bad eye and 6/6 or 6/9 for the good eye. J2 for the bad eye and J1 for the good eye have near eyesight.

Physical criteria are required for IPS, which include a weekly run of 10 kilometres in 60 minutes, rope climbing, horseback riding, and PT obstacles, among other activities.
