Out of NIT Durgapur, NIT Raipur, NIT Calicut, NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Silchar if you want to pursue your career in mechanical engineering, then undoubtedly NIT Calicut and after that NIT Jamshedpur will the best two NITs for pursuing mechanical engineering. This is because, in NIT Calicut and NIT Jamshepur, the well trained faculties take their work seriously and helps towards the betterment of the students. Syllabus is prepared accordingly so that students can study and prepare for competitive exams such as GATE. They train the students to be thorough with the ideas and concepts so that the students can able to work out in any type of situation given. Outstanding infrastructure and placements are also good. You will never regret in pursuing your degree in these two premier institutes. The choice is yours. NIT Raipur is also good if you pursue there too.
But on the other hand, if your pursue at NIT Durgapur, you won't get the same. At NIT Silchar, the situation is almost same as CSE branch gets more priority.
So overall as I've said, NIT Calicut & NIT Jamshedpur will be the best to pursue mechanical engineering.
