The UPSOSB is an independent body that is authorised by law and operated by the Education Department of the Indian Government's Open Schooling programme.
The Uttar Pradesh State Open School Society is a recognised Indian Societies non-governmental organisation. To promulgate and disseminate education at the state and national levels, an autonomous corporate body must be registered under the Registration Act of 1860.
