Although both the colleges provide a chance of good placement, but if provided a choice you should go for Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. See whatever suits your credibility and decide accordingly.

I think Thapar University is a much better option than Jaypee because TU has good placement record and is a much older university than any private university in India, also it was ranked 26th as the best engineering Institution and 4th Best private university in the space of Engineering and Tech. as per NIRF rankings by Ministry of HRD India, so I think it itself clears that Jaypee or any other Pvt university has no competition when it comes to Thapar University.
Rest is up to your choice. I can only wish you good luck!
