The basic procedure of samanya niwas certificate and the domicile certificate is mostly the same but there are some differences although.
Here are some basic differences- A Niwas Praman Patra is required for students to get a scholarship from a school or university, whereas the domicile certificate can provide various benefits to the holder such as education, government-sponsored scholarship, as well as employment under state quotas.

Hi,
samanya niwas certificate give details of living where you're residing currently/temporary with proof.
The proof of your permanent address is given in domicile Certificate.
Both the certificates are used for different aspects.
Provided all the formalities are in order domicile Certificate are issued to the applicant within one month.
Domicile certificate has a life long validity. Domicile certificate is issued by the respective state government which contains the details on date of issue, specifically mentioned on certificate but, date of expiry is not mentioned on it.
Mool niwas praman patra is equivalent to your domicile address.
