Good to see that you want to become an IAS officer after your graduation and you want to prepare for UPSC CSE. Now you must be knowing to give UPSC CSE you must have an undergraduate degree in whichever stream from any recognised University and that's you are having in BSC nursing. So yes you are finally fine the minimum eligibility criteria and you can appear in UPSC CSE.
As you might be knowing that UPSC CSE is consisting of three stages:
- Preliminary examination
- Mains
- Interview
And after qualifying these three stages if you got your name in the merit list then you would be getting the rank according to your index number and also the different posts.
Now the basic thing comes that from which step you should start your UPSC CSE preparation. As you are from Science background so I think you are having some lack in Humanities subject,so the first step is very important is you must have to clear your basics for which you can refer to NCERT books up 6th to 12th and it's suppose you are finding it very easy then you can leave some books also.
After completing your basics you must switch to some standard books for preliminary examination and about these things like syllabus you can find from UPSC CSE website also.
Start your preparation from now onwards as it is the best time to start UPSC CSE because you have completed your graduation and I hope you can excel in it.

You are eligible to appear for UPSC Civil Service Exam if you have passed BSc Nursing from a recognized University, candidates need to attain 21 years as on 1st August of the appearing year, to provide you a brief information regarding this, UPSC Civil Service Exam consists of three stages-
Preliminary : First Stage is MCQs based exam, it has two papers and each one consists of 200 marks,its numbers ain't added to final list, you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.
First is GS Paper-I which consists of the following topic such as History of India and Indian national movement, Indian and World geography, Economic and social development- sustainable development, poverty,inclusion demographics, social sector initiatives etc,Indian polity and governance-constitution,political system,Current Events nationally and Internationally, General Science,General Issues on environmental ecology,biodiversity and climate change. you just need to score the required cut offs against your category.
Second Paper is CSAT which is qualifying by nature,you need to score merely 33% which is 66 marks out of 200, it includes following topics such as basic numeracy, comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical ability, general mental ability, decision making and problem solving, interpersonal skills including communication skills.
Mains : This is a second stage which it's more of a subjective type, you are required to write answers for Four General Studies Paper such as
GS-I includes Indian Heritage and Culture,History and Geography of the World and Society,
GS-II includes Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations,
GS-III includes Technology, Economic Development, Bio-Diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management,
GS-IV includes Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude
Two Optionals to be chosen among the following-
Agriculture /Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Anthropology /Botany /Chemistry /Civil Engineering
Commerce & Accountancy /Economics /Electrical Engineering/Geography /Geology/History
Law /Management /Mathematics /Mechanical Engineering /Medical Science /Philosophy /Physics /Political Science & International Relations /Psychology /Public Administration /Sociology /Statistics /Zoology
Other than this, you can also consider literature subjects for optionals such as Assamese,Bengali,Bodo,Dogri,Gujarat,Hindi,Kannada,Kashmiri,Konkani,Maithili,Malayalam,Manipuri,Marathi,Nepali,Oriya,Punjabi,Sanskrit,Santhali,Sindhi,Tamil,Telugu,Urdu,English
Two Language Paper which is only qualifying by nature, each is of 300 Marks, and candidates need to get merely 25% that is 75 Marks
One Essay
In total there are nine papers in Mains, except the two language papers , each paper is of 250 marks, total adds up to 1750 marks.
Interview : Prelims and Mains are further followed by personality test of 275 marks.
the total marks attributed in UPSC CSE is 2025 marks.
Preparation Tips:
In order to initiate your preparation, the first and most important step is to be well acquainted with UPSC Syllabus , learn it by heart as this will enable you to know what to read and what to skip.
As per the recent trends UPSC is framing Prelims questions also based on Mains syllabus, so have an integrated approach .
To cover such a humongous syllabus you will have to make a timetable,set targets on a daily,weekly and monthly basis,that's the only way to complete this extensive syllabus.
Newspaper reading is equally vital part of preparation, you can start with any newspaper like The Hindu, or Indian Express on a regular basis to be updated as well as gaining knowledge which shall be highly useful to you in future exam preparation part. Put a more emphasis on editorial part, it will not only broaden your perspective but help a lot in answer writing,and make sure whatever opinion you form it should be well balanced. You can also make notes of this,it'll be very useful in answer writing.
When it comes to reading books ,start off with NCERTs which will build your basics strong, and thereafter move on to other relevant books as follows-

For Geography refer World Geography and Geography of India by Majid Hussain, GC Leong's Physical and Human Geography with NCERT Class XI book.
For GS II - Polity and International Relations , refer Indian Polity by Lamikanth,India's Foreign Policy by Rajiv Sikri
For GS III - For Economics refer Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh, read ARC report along with Economic Survey and Fiscal Budget.
For GS IV - For Ethics refer a book named Lexicon by Niraj Kumar, also you can go through study material of IGNOU.
K eep your resources minimal, read one book many a times instead of many a book one time,revision is the only key for remembrance.
Writing mains is a huge task, for nine paper it requires immense practice along with knowledge. So, practice it in advance, and p ractice previous year question paper, mock papers, and test series to analyze preparation level.
