You wont get any benefit in the CAT exams but during the shortlisting phase you will get a huge advantage. Almost all IIMs provide grace marks for academic diversity and it will boost your chances. However it is the last thing you should think about now as definitely you wont want complacency in this stage. Give your best shot in CAT first. Rest all will take care of itself.
All the best!
Hey .
Being a commerce student does adds some additional points in your selection process for IIMs . As all the IIMs looks for diversity in their college therefore your commerce background while definitely help you .
Hi Satyajit,
Yes, there would be some benefit but that would be marginal. As all the IIMs look for academic diversity so in the later stages non-engineers like B.com graduates do get points for that. However, this comes in to play only once you clear the cutoffs through CAT.
Hope it helps.
Good Luck!
I would like to inform you that no extra marks are awarded for any one giving CAT. It does not matters which stream you are everyone is awarded marks as per their performance in the entrance exam and P.I. The benefit you will have is that you will be having a background knowledge of the subjects you are going to study.
All the best. I hope this was helpful to you.
