Sir,i have passed cat 2018 with a rank of 5897 (OBC) and 99 (VSK).Will i get admission for Msc.photonics in ISP.What are my course chances.?
Hello Ganesh,
As of the recent trends which I have seen in last 6 years, any non- Keralite (who does not hail from Kerala) has to secure rank under 2000 in order to get at least short-listed in the first few lists for taking admissions any branch.
It might happen that a particular batch hasperformed exceedingly exceptional and even rank 2000 is not enough. In that case you have to wait for further lists.
There are situations when you will find that few students who have lesser ranks than you have been shortlisted then it is because of their wise choice of subjects.
For eg:- The admission for Fire and Safety closes by rank 300-500.
Computer science and Electronics&Communications is called till 1500-1800.
Rest other branches are less crowded. So if you see you have not so good rank its better that you don't fill these subjects as your first option, then there are chances that you will be called much before others.
Again there is choices of first and second campus. Getting into first campus is obviously tougher than the latter. But if you are subject specific, you can choose second campus too cause ultimately you have to study on your own and placement opportunities are same for both.
In the worst case you might have to wait for all the admissions to get over for "on the spot admissions" which aims at filling up the left seats. But this is just fluke. Better don't depend entirely on this and keep looking for other options at the same time.
Hope this helps. Best wishes for your admissions.
