Hey,

N=M×n means molarity× number of moles.

So, if you don't know the number of moles then, another formula of finding normality is

N= [weight (gms)/equivalent weight] × [1000/ volume (lt)]

N = (M)(number of hydrogen or hydroxide ions)

For example, a 2 M H2SO4 solution will have a Normality of 4N (2 M x 2 hydrogen ions). A 2 M H3PO4, solution will have a Normality of 6N. How?

M=2 and n=3(3 moles of hydrogen)

So, 2×3=6

Hope this helps!

Dear Aspirant,

Normality = mass/eq.mass x 1000/volume of solutions( ml)

and Eq. mass = Molar mass/ n factor

or normality = Mass/ molar mass/ n factor  x 1000/ volume of solution (ml) = mass/molar mass x 1000/ volume of solution (ml) x n factor = molarity x n factor

For H3PO4, n = 3

So normality = 1x3=3N

Thanks

All the very best
