Correct Answer: Statement 1 is true, Statement 2 is true, but Statement 2 is not the correct explanation of Statement 1.

Solution : The correct answer is (b) Statement 1 is true, Statement 2 is true, but Statement 2 is not the correct explanation of Statement 1.

Statement 1 is true. Pakistan does have a higher birth rate compared to India. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Pakistan had a higher crude birth rate (number of live births per 1,000 population) compared to India.

Statement 2 is not the correct explanation for the difference in birth rates between Pakistan and India. While cultural and social factors do play a role in shaping attitudes towards family size and contraceptive use, there are multiple factors that contribute to differences in birth rates between countries, such as access to healthcare, education, economic conditions, government policies, and family planning programs.

Therefore, while both statements are true, Statement 2 is not the correct explanation for the higher birth rate in Pakistan compared to India.
