Question : Study the given table and answer the question that follows.
The table shows the consumption of various grains by four families of four members each from 2002 to 2005.
Year | Wheat(kg) | Rice(kg) | Oats(kg) | Quinoa(kg) |
2002 | 162 | 62 | 131 | 61 |
2003 | 196 | 80 | 116 | 64 |
2004 | 187 | 116 | 103 | 46 |
2005 | 189 | 122 | 101 | 45 |
For the total of these four families, what is the difference (in kg) between the average consumption per year of wheat and that of oats?
Option 1: 129.5
Option 2: 90.67
Option 3: 70.75
Option 4: 63.5
Correct Answer: 70.75
Solution :
Average consumption per year of wheat = $\frac{162 + 196 + 187 + 189}{4}$ = $\frac{734}{4}$ = 183.5
Average consumption per year of oats = $\frac{131 + 116 + 103 + 101}{4}$ = $\frac{451}{4}$ = 112.75
$\therefore$ Difference = 183.5 – 112.75 = 70.75
Hence, the correct answer is 70.75.
