Hi
There are several exams for engineering an aspirant can answer to get into undergraduate courses in India
Lets first start with B. Tech / B.E
To get admission into above course you need to be 12 std science student securing minimum 60 %
Now in India exams are conducted are state level or All India level.
Lets talk about All India level
1. JEE MAIN
2. JEE ADVANCED
The above two exams are conducted by NTA for admission into NIT, IIT, IIIT, or any centrally funded university.
Apart from this there are private university in India which conducts exam at All India level
for Eg
1. Manipal Institute of Technology, conducts MUOET
2. VIT conducts VITEEE
3. Lovely professional university conducts LUPNEST
Now in this type of exam a common merit list is made and councelling is done. The candidate is alloted a All India Rank ( AIR )
Now lets talk about state university exams
Many states in India conduct there own entrance exam for admission into B. Tech
Here the merit list is made only for that state
For eg
1. Goa conducts CET
2. Karnatake conducts KCET
3. Uttar Pradesh conducts UPSEE
For getting admission into M. Tech
Candidates need to answer GATE to get admission into IIT, NIT, IISC etc.
Though private and state university also conduct exam for Masters

To get into engineering as an undergraduate, NTA conducts JEE mains every year(from this year, 2 times in a year) to get admitted into various NITs. To get into IITs you have to qualify JEE mains and then get a good score in JEE Advanced. Apart from these, many private engineering colleges conduct exams for admissions into engineering. Lets have a look at each of those exams:
JEE Mains:
This is conducted by national testing agency(NTA) from this year, and it is held twice a year.
It consists of 2 papers each of three hours duration. First paper is for those seeking admissions to b.tech programmes in NITs,IITs,IIITs. Second paper is for those seeking admissions to B.Arch programmes at NITs, IITs, IIIT s. Paper 1 is completely online whereas paper 2 is both oniline as well as offline.
Exam pattern:
1.paper 1 consists of a total of 360 marks with three sections physics, chemistry and maths with 30 questions per each subject. These are all mcqs with 4 options, +4 for every correct answer and -1 for every wrong answer.
2. Paper 2 consists of three subjects- mathematics, aptitude and drawing(offline). Mathematics 30 questions aptitude 50 and drawing 2. No negative marks for drawing. Total 390 marks of which 70 are for drawing.
2. JEE Advanced:
JEE advanced is conducted once a year for top 2.4 lakh rank holders of JEE main. All the eligible candidates had to appear for two papers. Paper1 and paper 2. Both papers are 3 hour long. It is conducted in online format only. The questions are of objective type (mcq and numerical answer type).Negative marks are awarded to incorrect answers of some of the questions.
3.BITSAT:
Conducted by Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, it is a computer based test conducted once a year to get into BE, Pharma offered by BITS.The test has objective type multiple choice questions and is of three hour duration.
4 subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, english and logical reasoning as well as mathematics. total of 450 marks. +3 for correct answer -1 for wrong answer
4.VITEEE:
It is conducted by Vellore Institute of technology, vellore. It is one of the most popular Institute in india with nirf ranking 13.It is a computer based test
Question paper is divided into four sections: physics, chemistry, mathematics, English. All sections other than english have 40 questions, english has only 5 questions. total 125 marks. 1 mark for correct answer. No negative grading.
5. SRMJEE:
SRM Institute of science & technology conducts this exam for admissions into vadapalani, kattankalathur, ramapuram, delhi-
NCR.
Online mode exam
3 subjects: physics, chemistry, mathematics
3 marks per question
No negative marking
6.KIITEE
Kalinga Institute of industrial technology, Bhubaneswar conducts this test to offer admissions to candidates in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Computer based test
3 subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry
120 questions
