Though I'm not 22+ still trying to answer your question because I am a engineering student in one of the reputed college of the country and know about other colleges specially IITs and nits and their branches .

IIT Kanpur is very good for mechanical even it is involved in the engine design for racing cars.

After IIT Kanpur, the best private engineering college for mechanical branch is bits pilani. Their mechanical branch is very famous all over the country. BITs is having top notch faculty for mechanical as I have seen their faculty page. Even the projects that they are making are also very good .

RVCE, BMSCE are also very good for mechanical but they do not offer much research opportunities to students still their placement are good.

MIT Manipal is also known for its mechanical branch but obviously can not match the standard of colleges like bits pilani and nits.
