It may enter the body through wounds such as cuts, scrapes, and perforations. Once inside the body, the bacteria generates a toxin that induces muscular spasms. These contractions can be uncomfortable and result in muscular stiffness in the jaw, neck, and other areas. Tetanus can cause respiratory failure and death in extreme instances. There is no cure for tetanus, but it is preventable with vaccination
