The criteria of JEE mains is to be either in top 20 percentile of your respective board or to score 75% in you boards exam for general category students and 65% for SC-ST students.
Take the case of CBSE board in this board each subject is marked out of 100 and while taking 75% into consideration English(compulsory) and 4 other subject most preferably(maths, physics, chemistry, extra subject) are taken into consideration or in other words best of 4 subjects marks are taken with english being the 5th compulsory subject.
In state boards also the combined sum of your top 5 subjects with one being a compulsory subject is taken into consideration irrespective of total marks of that subject. In this way either you need to be in top 20 percentile (if top 20 percentile is less than 75%) or have 75% marks.

Dear aspirant; the criteria for JEE MAIN is minimum 75% marks in your 12th board . But it is not the subject wise min.cutoff it is the aggregate that you need to have for JEE MAIN I.e. the aggregate of all 5 subjects should have a minimum of 75%of marks in general category. For SC/ST category students min. if 65% marks is needed in 12th board or equivalent exam. Or other than this you need to be in the top 20 percentile students in your respective board.
Thank you hope this helps you!
