Correct Answer: 2,000
Solution : Let the amount of the bill be $x$. When giving two successive discounts of 30% and 30%, the bill amount $=\frac{x×70×70} {100×100}=\frac{49x}{100}$ When giving flat discount of 40%, the bill amount $=\frac{60x} {100}$ Difference between selling prices = Difference in the discounts According to the question, $\frac{60x}{100}-\frac{49x}{100}=220$ ⇒ $\frac{60x-49x}{100}=220$ ⇒ $11x=220×100$ $\therefore x=2000$ So, the amount of the bill = Rs. 2,000 Hence, the correct answer is 2,000.
