Solution : Given: The present ages of Vishal and Shekhar are in the ratio of 14 : 17. Six years from now, their ages will be in the ratio of 17 : 20.
Let the present ages of Vishal and Shekhar be $14x$ and $17x$ years respectively.
According to the question,
$\frac{14x+6}{17x+6}=\frac{17}{20}$
⇒ $289x+102=280x+120$
⇒ $9x=18$
⇒ $x=2$
So, Shekhar's present age is (17 × 2) = 34 years.
Hence, the correct answer is 34 years.
