The first four Republic Day parades were held at different places between 1950 to 1954. For the first time in 1955, Rajpath was decided to be a permanent venue for the Republic Day celebrations. Republic Day is celebrated on 26th January every year. Dr Rajendra Prasad was the President and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister of India at that time.
