Correct Answer: Rs. 16,000
Solution : Let the income of C be 3$x$ and D be 4$x$. We know that, Income = Expenditure + Savings Income of C = $3x$ Let expenditure of C be $y$ Then, savings of C = $3x-y$ Income of D = $4x$ Let expenditure of D be $z$ Then, savings of D = $4x-z$ Given: sum of expenditure = Rs. 12,000 $y+z$ = Rs. 12000 Now, savings of C = expenditure of D ⇒ $3x-y = z$ ⇒ $3x = y+z$ Putting the value of $y+z$, we get ⇒ $3x$ = 12000 $\therefore x$ = 4000 Thus, the income of C = 3 × 4000 = 12,000 The income of D = 4 × 4000 = 16,000 Sum of incomes = 12000 + 16000 = 28,000 Savings = sum of incomes – sum of expenditure. = 28000 – 12000 = 16,000 Hence, the correct answer is Rs. 16,000.
