the sum of the radius and the height of the solid cylinder is 37 CM if the total surface area of the solid is 1628 CM square find the circumference of the base

Hello,

The total surface area of cylinder = 2*pi*r*h+2*pi*r^2= 1628

Taking 2*pi*r common 2*pi*r*(h+r) we get

2*pi*r*(h+r)= 1628------------------- equation 1

The sum of height and the radius is given to us

h+r= 37

if we substitute in the equation 1  we get

2*pi*r*37= 1628

solving further we get

2*pi*r= 1628/37

2*pi*r= 44

pi*r= 22

r=22/pi

r=7

The circumference of the base which is  a circle = 2*pi*r

= 2*pi*7

= 43.98
