Solution : The total percentage of people below 36 years (up to 35 years) is the sum of the percentages of the age groups up to 15, 16-25, and 26-35.
⇒ 15.00 + 20.25 + 16.75 = 52%
Given that there are 30 million people below 36 years. Let the total population as P.
⇒ 30 = $\frac{52}{100}$ × P
⇒ P = 57.69 million
Now, the percentage of people in the age group 56-65 is 5.50%.
The number of people in this age group is given by:
= $\frac{5.50}{100}$ × P
= $\frac{5.50}{100}$ × 57.69 = 3.17 million
Hence, the correct answer is 3.17 million.
