The two forces of magnitude 24 and 7 units act at right angle . Find the resultant of the forces
ACT Exam: Preparation Tips
Hi,
The two forces of magnitude 24 and 7 units act at right angle.
The vector law :
Let P and Q be two vectors acting simultaneously at a point and θ be the angle between P and Q and R be the resultant vector.
R² =P² +2PQcosθ+Q² (magnitude)
= tan - 1 ((Qsinθ/(P+Qcosθ))
Here magnitudes are 24 adn 7. θ=90°
So
The resultant of the two forces will be :
1. Magnitude : √ (24² )+(7² )= √ (576+49)= √ 625=25 units.
2. Direction; Suppose the vectors are 24i+7j, then the direction of the resultant will be:
= tan - 1 (7/24) in radian.
Hope this helps!
