See most colleges in India don't have any strict dress code to follow. But in general there are some don'ts such as (for either gender) :

  • No ripped jeans
  • No cut sleeves
  • No overly exposed dresses

But there are some strict universities like Christ University which doesn't allow any kind of other dresses but only formals for professional course and for other courses traditional formals. Also its alleged that in christ University there are rules such as No beard for boys etc. Also IIT KGP have some rules that the girls can wear three quarters  and can go for Libraries/Classes but boys are strictly prohibited.

But as per the data there are very less colleges like this. Most colleges don't have this kind of strictness but its expected that a student must wear what every he/she is comfortable as well as it maintains the decency of an education institution.

I hope this helps.
