Hello Sakshee,

NATA(National aptitude test in Architecture) is a test conducted for students who are interested in pursuing architecture as their career. It is being conducted by the council of architecture(CoA). This test score will provide you the eligibility for admission to five year graduate course in B.Arch in all colleges over India which have architectural courses.

Previously, this exam was conducted only once an year and the score obtained in that exam will be taken as the final score while counselling. But the scenario has changed now and from this year, the CoA has decided to conduct the exam twice an year to help the students who arent satisfied with their result in the first exam so that they can improve next time.

Basically, NATA mainly tests your ability to imagine things, your creativity and observation skills.

As you might have known, the question paper consists of three sections: Mathematics, Aptitude and drawing. And I can say you that most of the people are good at mathematics and aptitude. So your chance of getting into your dream college mainly depends on your score secured in drawing. In drawing section, you will be given two questions of 40 marks each with a total duration of 120 marks allotted to drawing section.

The drawing aptitude is judged based on the following aspects-

  • Ability to sketch a given object proportionately and rendering the same in visually appealing manner
  • Visualising and drawing the effects of light on the object and shadows cast on surroundings
  • Sense of perspective drawing
  • Combining and composing given three dimensional elements to form a building or structural form
  • Creating interesting two dimensional composition using given shapes and forms
  • Creating visual harmony using colours in given composition
  • Understanding of scale and proportions
  • Drawing from memory through pencil sketch on themes from day to day experiences

And every answer to the drawing section is evaluated by more than one examiner and the marks given by each one is averaged and is awarded to that question. And since there will be no review of your drawing sheets and the mark given is final, conducting the exam twice an year is a very good initiative for the students who feel they didnt  performed well. Giving twice is not mandatory but if you want to improve your score, then go for second.

The first test will be held on 14.04.2019 and the second test is scheduled on 07.07.2019. You have ample time for preparation.Do prepare well and write well.Hope your doubts are clarified.

All the best!!!
