This is my 2nd year(2021) of BSc. Am i eligible to give CAT 2022 (Nov)? (My last year BSc will start from April 2022).

Hello Aspirant,

Yes you would be eligible to appear for CAT 2022 because by that time you will be in your final year and as per the current eligibility criteria the final year students can also apply for CAT but their admission would be provisional and subject to the percentage of candidate scored in full program of UG.


Common Admission Test, in short CAT is conducted by any of the IIM in rotation every year , it is a computer-based entrance exam conducted for MBA/PGDM admissions at 20 IIMs and 1000+ B-Schools in India. Candidates who have completed graduation with 50% of marks are eligible to apply for IIM CAT 2022 or the candidates currently in final year can also apply . As per the new paper pattern the paper is of total 228 marks and it will consists of 76 total number of questions divided in three sections namely VARC, DILR and QA.

For CAT 2022 no exact dates are out yet but it is expected that the application process for it will start in the month of August '22 and the tentative exam date is November 28th 2022.

Now let us discuss how to prepare for above three sections so that we can get the best score which can take us to the best B-Schools of the country.

For Quantitative Ability :-

> For this section your pre-requisite is the complete understanding of basics of Mathematics.

> You should have proper command on topics like profit and loss, number system, geometry.

> Practice as many as sample papers you can and go for some mock tests as well.


Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension :-

> Reading skill is the pre-requisite for this section, so try to read different English story books, magazines, etc.

> Go through newspapers, journals, blogs, articles, etc to enhance your reading skills and watch some English visuals such as English News, web series, movies and likewise.

> Try solving questions based on comprehension, inferences and para jumbles. You can purchase some booklets for the same from market.


Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation :-

> This section seems to be the toughest section in CAT exam, but it is not if you practice a lots of questions on logical reasoning and practice solving different hard core problems so that your problem solving ability will increase, which is the pre-requisite for this section.

> Go through some basic topics like seating arrangements, blood relations, syllogisms, etc to get familiar with this section.

No, you aren't eligible to appear for CAT 2021 as you're still in second year, only candidates who have completed their graduation from a recognized university, or are in the final year of graduation in 2021 and 2022 are eligible to appear for CAT, the aggregate factor for this year is removed, though this only concerns the eligibility criteria of CAT, the aggregate factor may vary among institutes that conducts admission through CAT, visit our page at https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/cat-eligibility-criteria to know more details regarding this.

since you asked about 2022, yes final year candidates can apply provisionally, generally for UR there has to be a minimum of 50% aggregate in bachelor's degree from a recognized university, and for reserved categories it's 45% aggregate, as I already elaborated on the fact that this aggregate factor isn't applicable for CAT eligibility criteria only for this year, however this may vary among different institutes, please visit the link I provided above to know more details for the same.
