Correct Answer: 1,85,000
Solution : Assume the total votes to be 100 units. The person in third place got 20% = 20 units Remaining = 100 – 20 = 80 units The difference in votes between the winner and the first runner-up = 20% of 100 = 20 units So, the number of votes the winner and the first runner-up received were 50 units and 30 units respectively. Given the difference of votes between the first and the second runner-up = 37000 Thus (30 – 20) units is equivalent to 37000 ⇒ 10 units is equivalent to 37000 votes ⇒ 1 unit is equivalent to 3700 votes So, the number of votes the winner received = 50 units = 3700 × 50 = 1,85,000 Hence, the correct answer is 1,85,000.
