Question : Two trains, running between Bangalore and Chennai, start at the same time from their respective locations and proceed towards each other at the speeds of 80 km/hr and 95 km/hr. When they meet, it is found that one train has travelled 180 km more than the other. The distance between Bangalore and Chennai is _______.?
Option 1: 1200 km
Option 2: 2100 km
Option 3: 345 km
Option 4: 400 km
Correct Answer: 2100 km
Solution :
Let the time of travelling be $t$ hours.
Distance travelled by train with speed 80 km/hr = $80 × t$
Distance travelled by train with speed 95 km/hr = $95 × t$
According to the question,
The difference in distance travelled by two trains = 180 km
$⇒95 t - 80t = 180$
$⇒15t = 180$
$⇒t = 12$ hours
$\therefore$ Distance between stations = 80 ×12 + 95 × 12 = 960 + 1140 = 2100 km
Hence, the correct answer is 2100 km.
