In most of the colleges, the regular classes don't start after the given date of commencement, there are things like an introduction and orientations happening in the first few days of college. But it is not the scenario of all the colleges, some colleges start the classes from the first day. If you for any reason don't attend the classes for the first week the basics of all the subjects will be lost but you can easily cover that by yourself because most of the topics are of your class 12.

Hope you are doing well. Congratulations for getting a good engineering college . Don't worry if you won't be able to attend the classes in the beginning as you will not lose anything very very important because in starting 4-5 days induction program is held for the 1st year students and many more activities related to studies and some non studies also held. So you will not miss any thing important though you will miss the fun.
