hey,
gate exam is conducts by different iits in every years. like gate 2020 is conducts by IIT Delhi. the different PSUs and state electricity, central government organization hires engineers through gate rank. many reputed institute like iits nits state universities , deemed to be university has admission in mtech program through gate rank. so if you willing to get chance in mtech programs or want to job in reputed PSUs you need to appear in gate. also some foreign university accepts gate rank for Mtech admission.
so gate is important I respective of your caste. caste category benefits us the cutoff score is slightly low for sc,st ,obc category compare to general category.
