According to latitudinal extent hilly areas are divided into Tundra and Taiga. Tundra is the snow covered region which extends from 65 degree to 90 degrees latitude, while taiga are coniferous forests which are commonly found between 55 to 65 degrees latitude. Tundra has sparse vegetation and there are large bare tracts of land. Vegetation found here are dwarf shrubs, sedges, mosses, grasses, lichens etc. Usually there are no trees found because of extreme cold temperatures.
