Hello there,


You could be IAS through UPSC Examination,The UPSC (Union Public Service commission) Civil Services Exam Syllabus is divided into three categories, namely Preliminary, Mains and Interview.

The Preliminary syllabus is mainly designed to access a candidate's comprehension of current affairs and aptitude within the stipulated time and  The preliminary paper is a compulsory paper to be qualified for further round.

The Mains syllabus is basically designed to judge a candidate's academic knowledge in yourr specialised subject. The syllabus also focuses on testing yours ability to present knowledge in a clear and coherent manner.  The main examination has 9 papers and the syllabus is designed according to the subjects specified. The Preliminary and Mains syllabus is designed for the written test. Candidates, who emerge successful in the Preliminary and Main examination, can appear for the interview.

Hello,

Before knowing the syllabus of IAS exam, you must know how many papers will be there and its time duration. The time duration for wach exam will be two hours.

  • General Studies Paper-1 -100 questions- 200marks
  • General studies paper-2 -80 questions-200 marks

For paper 1 syllabus:-

  • Current affairs
  • History of India and Indian National movement
  • Indian and World Geography- physical, Social, Economic, Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian polity and governance
  • Economic and social development
  • General issues on environmental ecology
  • General Science

For paper 2 syllabus

  1. Comprehension
  2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  4. Decision making and problem solving
  5. General mental ability
  6. Basic numeracy

Hello Aspirant,

This exam is divided into 2 papers considering each of marks 200.

General Studies Paper I - 200 Marks - 2 Hrs Time

General Studies Paper II - 200 Marks - 2 Hrs Time

The questions will be of multiple choice, objective types.

Syllabus for paper I & Paper II

Paper- I

  1. General questions on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change - which does not require specialisation.
  2. Current events of national and international significance.
  3. Indian Politics and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  4. General Science.
  5. History of India and the Indian National Movement.
  6. Economic and social development Sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demography of social sector initiatives, etc.
  7. Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.

Paper- II

  1. General mental ability
  2. Common Understanding
  3. Decision making and problem solving.
  4. Interpersonal skills, including communication skills.
  5. Simple calculation (numbers and their relationships, orders of magnitude, etc.) (class X-plane), interpretation of data (graphs, graphs, tables, sufficient data, etc. - class X-level).
  6. Logical thinking and analytical skills.

IAS Main Exam Details :

IAS Main exam is divided into 7 Papers containing 250 marks each

  1. Paper I - Essay
  2. Paper II - General Studies I (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)
  3. Paper III - General Studies II (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations)
  4. Paper IV - General Studies III (Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)
  5. Paper V - General Studies IV ( Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)
  6. Paper VI - Optional Subject- Paper 1
  7. Paper VII - Optional Subject- Paper 2
