The basic difference between a B.Tech and Polytechnic engineering courses is that a B.Tech is a degree course while a Polytechnic is a diploma course in engineering.

One can opt for a polytechnic course just after 10th or it can also be done after 12th. But one cannot opt for B.Tech only after 12thwith physics, chemistry and maths as compulsory subjects. The duration of a polytechnic course is of minimum 3 years but you can take a lateral entry in polytechnic if you have done ITI for which the duration of the course will then be 2 years. The admissions are based on Polytechnic Entrance Exam which happens in the month of May or June, in some states polytechnics also take direct admission in 3 years diploma course. For B.Tech the duration of the course is 4 years, but a lateral entry can be taken directly to the second year if a person has done a polytechnic course. The admissions are based on JEE ranking and some other institutes and colleges conduct their own entrance exams.Polytechnic (Diploma Engineering) are done may be those who are not able to afford degree engineering and need to get into a job as early as possible. There is no entrance test for admission into Polytechnic, but an entrance test is mandatory for admission to Degree Engineering (BTech or BE).

Hope this will help You.

Polytechnic refers 3year diploma program after classX, and is different from regular science stream. admission to Engineering is from secind year when you do polytechnic course.

Polytechnic is 3 year diploma course while BTech is 4 year degree course. Degree holders deserves much better posts in any organisation as compared to diploma holders (in general). Degree courses develop you technically as well as it will add to your personality development. Diploma is, well one can say, small version of degree.

Polytechnic is a diploma course and the duration of this course is 3 years and this degree is equivalent to 12th standard.

But engineering is 4 year bachelor course.

After doing polytechnic you have to do engineering to become an engineer
