What about my career if i study B.arch
Hello,
The career opportunities for architects are very high because of the boom in the construction and designing fields. They are demanded in various government and private organizations.
You can work in the sectors of construction, urban planning, urban development corporations, public works departments, interior designing, etc.
Architects have lots of job opportunities in architect firms, universities, consultancy companies, etc. Global market, especially in the USA, Australia and Dubai provide attractive career and jobs for architecture graduates.
Architects can work in the office as well as in the construction site. In construction companies, they are working as a designer. You can also work independently and earn occupation through consultancy charges that is depend upon your skills, profile and experience.
As an Architect, your job in not limited to design corporate workplace rather than you have to design houses, colonies, apartments, hospitals, hotels, stadium, shopping complexes, schools, industrial complexes, etc.
You can also work as a lecturer in various Institutions.
You can also work with an architectural firm or under the supervision of a well-established architect.
Hope it helps!!
- A large portion of architects work in different architectural firms in tier 1/tier 2 cities. Among these people , most of them are underpaid and basically working as a draftsman in a meager salary structure. Starting salary can vary between 15k-25k/month depending upon the city and type of firm. Few of them are working for a lesser salary structure under some so called star architects to gain valuable experience and contacts. After gaining experience you can either start your own firm (not very easy though) or join another firm with a better salary structure.
- Some even work as a site architect or project manager after gaining a few years experience in Real Estate.
- Architecture students get rarely placed (only a few in IITs / SPA /CEPT) in campus placements . Few join Construction Companies or Large Real Estate firms. Here they are paid reasonably well. Some are going for masters in City Planning , Urban Design , Landscape , Conservation , Environmental Planning etc in SPA , IIT or other reputed institutes (Some also sit in GRE/TOEFL). After completing their masters , mostly they are going for research or joining in private colleges as an assistant professor. Few work for Design Firms , Construction Companies or Consultanting Firms like E&Y , KPMG etc.
- Very few students are going for techno management courses like ACM , BEM , REUIM in SPA , NICMAR , RICS etc.
- Some decide to shift their career and sit for NID entrance exam , CEED and persue different creative career in Product Design , Fashion Design , Set Design , UX Design etc.
- Rarely students go for typical MBA or other management courses like Rural Management / Advertisement Management etc.
- There are very few vacancy for inexperienced architects in PSU or other government companies. Although the chance of getting a government job increases after doing masters in Planning / Conservation etc.
- There are also some other not so popular option like architectural journalism , architectural tourism etc. But these sectors are not very organised in our country and few passionate architects are involved here.
- Some highly skilled architects work as a BIM Expert , Facade Optimiser , CAD trainer , 3D artist or model maker etc.
This is the situation in a nutshell
