Neuroscience is an in depth study of the structure, behaviour and function of the nervous system through a series of technological tests and experiments. The nervous system comprises of the spinal cord and the brain. Neuroscience was originally studied as a subject under biology but with recent technological advancements and awareness, it now is studied as an individual subject. It is an highly inter-disciplinary course. The course ranges from subjects like biology, physics, chemistry, physiology, anatomy, technology and engineering etc. Certain recent developments in this field are neuroplasticity and computational neuroscience consisting of genetics and imaging. Students can pursue a career in this from various pure science or engineering backgrounds (mainly electrical, computer science and biotechnology).
Candidates aspiring to become Neurologist must possess a 5½ years MBBS degree followed by 2- 3 years MD (Medicine) / DNB course. After attaining the Master's degree candidates have to do D.M. ( Neurology ) to specialize in the field of Neurology .
