Generally speaking you need to have a diverse skill set as a project manager:
Business background: You need to understand the core business. As a project manager you need a good background in controlling, calculation & management.
Communication: You need to be a communication expert. As a project manager it is your core responsibility to translate and communicate between all stakeholders involved in a project.
Deep industry knowledge: If you’re working as a project manager in IT, you need to have a deep understanding of IT.
Organizational talent: As a project manager you need to be a organizational talent. You’re responsible for managing people, delegating tasks and keeping track of every project phase. Better be organized.
The best way to become a project manager is by practicing and having a passion for it. A project manager should think and act different than anyone who's on that project. If you are working & don’t have any background in project management, ask to become an observer in a project managed by a project manager you know.
