For admission in VIT, the authorities have bifurcated the categories of students based on their ranks in VITEEE. These categories basically determine the amount of fees you will have to pay for your studies in the college. The categories are for all the campuses of VIT. The ones who get higher ranks get category 1 and have to pay least fees. Gradually as the rank increases, the category increases and so does the fees.
It can be estimated that the following is the criteria of categories.
Category1-rank (1–20,000)
Category 2-rank(20,001–40,000)
Category 3-rank(40,001–65,000)
Category 4-rank(65,001–99,999)
However, there can be changes according to the number of students who take admissions.

Hlo!! Due to corona virus pandemic Viteee exam has been cancelled. So they alloted ranklist based on school board marks and jee Jan attempt 2020. I got a VIT rank of 1433,

There are basically 5 categories for VITEEE and all have different fee structure depending on your ranks obtained as given below:
- 1-20000 is Category 1
- 20000-40000 is category 2
- 40000-65000 is catefory 3
- 65001-99999 is category4
- And 1lac onwards is Category 5.
- The fees keep in increasing with each category as per VIT admission rules.
- Streams are basically divided into GroupA and GroupB.
